And that's just the caveman level observations but when I contemplate the vastness of our solar system (to say nothing of the expanding universe) and the true size and distance of the planetary objects involved in this dance I am truly humbled and in awe of the divine proportions in this phenomenon. What are the odds? For me the odds are infinitesimally tiny to the point of absurdity but for Astronomy.com "it actually is just a (happy) coincidence" of this highly improbable universe. Two different ways of seeing the sun and moon and earth - one being warm, spiritual, human and the other being cold, material, machine - which impact daily thoughts and actions in life.
I can live with the binary polarity of these two very different perspectives on existentialism and, as with everything, I live somewhere on the spectrum between the two. There are so called "extremists" who find a comfort zone solidly on the up or down, right or left, black or white side of this spiritual dialectic and basically live there preeminently by self-censoring any contemplation of the opposing side. There are also many insane people who yoyo between the two poles with irregular and sometimes rapid transitions that result in disjointed personalities and erratic behavior. I endeavor to find a mean point in the conflicting world views and give a fair minded hearing to both sides while acknowledging to myself and others, including you dear reader, that I consider myself solidly on the God fearing (i.e. human) side of the argument. And there's nothing like a total eclipse of the sun by our tiny little moon (circumference 6,783.5 miles or the approximate distance between Washington DC and Tehran) to give me the empirical certainty that astrology is right and astronomy is wrong.
